EXCEPTIONAL URBAN HOMES
"The American Dream must irreversably be a green dream now."
~ Cory Booker, Mayor of Newark
Ideally located two blocks east of the Childrens Discovery Museum and a stone's throw from Stewart Park is our newest urban infill project, 2Cubes on Stewart. Not to be confused with our other homes on Stewart, these modernist cubes stand out not only in their colors but with their use of materials.
Although modernist in form they are warmly accentuated...literally and visually: from incredible R-value insulation to keep your tootsies warm, to a rich color pallete to compliment the wood, glass and steel exterior. These cubes stand out in a crowd.
Each home has almost 1,000 square feet of living and creative space. And for the conscientious urban dweller, outdoor gardening and relaxing areas of your very own. We utilized Insulating Concrete Form construction for super energy efficiency. ICF is a system of formwork for reinforced concrete that stays in place as a permanent interior and exterior substrate for walls, floors, and roofs. The forms are interlocking modular units that are dry-stacked (without mortar) and filled with concrete. The forms lock together somewhat like Lego bricks and serve to create a form for the structural walls (or floors) of a building.
This is a close up of our ICFs. The form is 12 inches thick and has an R-Value of 58
Our vision for this project centered on its starkness in both shape and color pallet. The site was extremely rocky (even by Nevada standards) and so we decided to utilize the boulders onsite in the landscape. The resulting juxtaposition of ultra modern building with prehistoric hardscape worked particularly well and is low-maintenance to boot. The art piece on the building is a modern take on the boulder theme and marries the spaces nicely.
The floor plan is open and flexible.
The loft space can be a second bedroom, office, or ?
Commercial grade windows and doors, etched addresses, and a pop of fresh pineapple yellow...hip?... modern?...Reno? Yes!
